Fractured Portofino Quilt – Updated w/Artist Names
ByI fell in love with this quilt at our recent quilt show. It is a collaboration by four members of the art quilt group – Lois Dunn, Carolyn Abbot, Steph Swensson and Bev Beighle. It started with a picture of the beautiful town of Portofino, Italy. Each person was given 1/4 of the picture to interpret, and the result is seen here. It is just stunning!
If you’ve ever seen Portofino from the water, it really does look just like this quilt. When we were there in 2008, we took the long climb up the road to the lighthouse. We walked past palatial villas owned by such celebrities as Dolce and Gabbana. Once at the lighthouse, the view is stunning, and of course, on the way up is a church.
The next town on the coast to the East is Santa Margherita Ligure. It’s a lovely town with lots of outdoor dining perfectly suited to people-watching.

Friend Stephanie Swensson sent me the link to this site. I love the quilt and the concept of several quilters creating parts of the scene. I have always loved ‘archetectural’ constructs and have employed them in many baby quilts.
I love this! What a beautiful vision.
